Course outline
“Micro Malting in Practice” is an 8-day hands-on course providing up-to-date knowledge in the field of malting. It covers the basics of malting technology in theory and practice. The lectures will cover topics such as malting barley and other relevant cereals (botanics, quality, varieties, enzymes a.o.), malting technology (steeping, germination, kilning, special aspects of small-scale malting, equipment) and practical laboratory work (barley and malt analysis, interpretation and assessment of different quality parameters).
In addition, the participants will conduct and accompany a complete malting batch in our pilot malting.
The language is English. You can expect an intensive training with maximum benefit.

The fee for this 8-day course is € 1990 plus German VAT, including all course materials. The fee may be paid by bank transfer, credit card or check.

In order to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese and international brewing technology and to promote the development of the brewing industry, the China International Brewing Technology Conference (CIBTC) has been successfully held four times since 2010. The conference will invite several well-known international scholars and experts, as well as a number of directors from top five Chinese beer groups to make technical presentations. Nearly 500 people from 200 breweries and universities are expected to participate in the event.

Die Durchflusszytometrie ist ein Messverfahren der Zellanalyse, welches in unterschiedlichen Bereichen der Medizin, Biologie und Fermentationstechnik genutzt wird. Dabei ist es möglich, jede einzelne Zelle einer Population zu erfassen und zu charakterisieren. Neben der Form und Struktur der Zellen lassen sich insbesondere durch spezifische Fluoreszenzmarker Aussagen über physiologische Eigenschaften von pro- und eukaryotischen Zellen treffen. Die Methode stellt in der Diagnostik und Prozessoptimierung ein wertvolles Hilfsmittel dar.

Labormitarbeiter/innen, wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter/innen, technisches Personal und weitere Interessierte, die sich einen ersten Überblick über Grundlagen der Durchflusszytometrie, sowie deren potentielle Möglichkeiten und Anwendungsgebiete verschaffen wollen.
Zielsetzung:
Theoretische und praktische Einführung in die Grundlagen und Anwendungsgebiete der Durchflusszytometrie. Anhand von ausgewählten Beispielen mit Fokus auf der Getränkeindustrie werden die Teilnehmer an die Technologie herangeführt und Möglichkeiten der Zellcharakterisierung und Nutzung der ermittelten physiologischen Kenndaten für den Fermentationsprozess dargestellt.

VLB Berlin and DuPont Industrial Biosciences (DuPont) are coming together to establish a new conference devoted to sharing brewing knowledge, strengthening relationships and discussing best practices for the brewing and malting industry in Africa. The inaugural event will take place in May 2019 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and will be supported by "Ethiopia Invest" as local partner.

As joint organizers, VLB Berlin and DuPont, supported by the local partner "Ethiopia Invest", aim to provide an open platform for world-class education and networking for the brewing industry in Africa. As a forum focused on the technical and scientific aspects of beermaking, the Africa Brewing Conference will bring together managers, brewers and leading technical staff from production, filling/packaging and quality assurance of breweries and maltings. The conference will be held in English, with topics covering the full supply chain of beer production, including raw materials, process optimization, sustainability, brewing technology, application of enzymes, product development and quality aspects.
