Dr. Roland Pahl leaves VLB

The head of the VLB Research Institute for Beer and Beverage Production (FIBGP), Dr. Roland Pahl, left VLB at the end of January at his own request. He will join Pall Corporation, a global specialist in filtration, separation and processing.

Dr. Roland Pahl is a trained and studied brewer, holding a doctor’s degree. He had begun his professional career at VLB as a research assistant in 2002. After various management functions, he was responsible for the Research Institute for Beer and Beverage Production (FIBGP) since 2014. In addition, as Chief Operating Officer (COO), he also was involved in the strategic development of VLB in recent years.

Under his direction, FIBGP has successfully established itself as a research centre and service provider for the brewing and beverage sector – with a national and a strong international orientation. Part of Pahl‘s area of responsibility was the VLB Testing Laboratory for Packaging, where all types of packaging products for the brewing and beverage industry are tested since 1972. In addition, teaching activities were a particular focus of his work. For many years, he was lecturing the course Brewing and Beverage Technology at the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin). In addition, he passed on his extensive expertise in various course formats of the VLB, for example in the Certified Brewmaster Course or the German Master Course for Brewers. As an excellent speaker, he was a valued VLB-guest at numerous trade congresses and seminars around the globe.

Dr. Roland Pahl will now take over the position of Beer Market Manager at Pall Corporation. "For me, Pall's offer is an excellent opportunity for my professional development," says Pahl. "After many years at VLB, it was time for me to move on and take the next step. However, I am very pleased that staying in contact with universities and research institutions is also part of my future job profile. Thus, I can continue my teaching activities here in Berlin. Pall has given me the appropriate approval."

"We very much regret Dr. Pahl's decision, but we are pleased that he will still be part of the brewing industry in his new position," commented Dr. Josef Fontaine and Gerhard Andreas Schreiber on this development. The two VLB managing directors thanked Dr. Roland Pahl for his dedicated work. "We wish him success with his new challenge. We are already looking forward to intensifying our business relationship with Pall Corporation. Together with the experienced FIBGP-team, we will continue and further develop Dr. Pahl’s successful work."
