Since 2008, the guild house ("Zunfthaus") on the premises at Seestraße 13 in Berlin-Wedding has served as a meeting place for students, friends and alumni of VLB Berlin, and also as a venue for the Berlin Brewers' Guild. After around 15 years, the wooden roof had become badly weathered and leaking. With financial support from the Vereinigung ehem. VLBer (VLB Alumni Association), the roof was professionally refurbished this autumn.

The general meeting of the ehem. VLBer had decided on 8 July 2022 in Berlin to financially support the urgently needed renovation work on the guild house. In the meantime, the work was carried out by a roofing company. Among other things, they included the disposal of the old roof covering, the repair of the wooden substructure, various roof plumbing works and the covering of the entire area with new bitumen rectangular shingles. Furthermore, additional supports for the rear roof overhang were installed. The work was completed at the beginning of November.

The costs of around €15,000 were covered by the Vereinigung ehem. VLBer (VLB Alumni Association). "We are very pleased that the Guild House can thus continue to be preserved as an important meeting place for students and alumni. It will also play an important role in our future plans," says Klaus Niemsch, first chairman of the Vereinigung ehem. VLBer e.V. As a further support measure, the ehem. VLBers had also agreed to finance a new bar in the Zunfthaus. In the meantime, however, the Radeberger Group has stepped in with the permanent loan of a modern tap bar. This will be officially handed over in January.

Burghard Meyer, Head Master of the Berlin Brewers' Guild, thanked the ehem. VLBer for their help: "The renovation was urgently needed and we thank the ehem. VLBer for their support. We would like to bring the ehem. VLBer and the Berlin Brewers' Guild closer together in the near future. The guild house is an important part of our joint association work."

The building was erected by the VLB in 1913 for the study of the production of acid feed at the location Seestraße 13 and was known as the "Sauerhaus". It survived the destruction of the Second World War and was then used as a warehouse for a long time. In 2008, a group of students renovated it on their own. Since then, the "Zunfthaus" has served as a popular meeting place on the Seestraße 13 campus grounds of the VLB and TU Berlin.
